With a one year old and a six-year old (almost seven) with seemingly endless amounts of energy, long drives to vacation destinations are out of the question for the Haas Family this summer. Instead, we are making it the summer of “Staycations!”
A staycation (as defined by Wikipedia) “is a period in which an individual or family stays home and participates in leisure activities within driving distance.” We plan to take part in several popular “staycation” activities which typically include day trips to local tourist sites, visits to local parks and museums and attendance at local festivals and amusement parks.
Specifically, there will be a couple days with the extended family at Bethany Beach, Delaware, a birthday trip for Cayden to historic Williamsburg, VA for both learning and fun (Busch Gardens amusement park is there) and a trip to Harper’s Ferry, WV. We also plan to frequent the pool, participate in Kutztown’s Bicentennial celebrations and wrap up the summer with an exciting family wedding celebration right after Labor Day.
The added benefit for us this summer is that Staycations are far less costly than a vacation involving lots of traveling. We should have minimal lodging costs and the gas expenses are less compared to recent years. Plus, we hope not to have the stress associated with lots of packing of baby toys and other baby associated furniture, long drives, or waits at airports.
We are excited for the summer and hope you are too! Bring on the sunshine!
